Storm Update #13: County Update

County Urges Caution

From Dave Abrams, Anne Arundel County Spokesman:

Just as a reminder, County Offices are closed today.

A force of 248 plow vehicles and construction equipment is presently working on clearing arterial, collector and residential roadways. Approximately 4,658 tons of salt have been loaded for spreading on County roadways.

The Department of Public Works is expecting additional salt delivery today.

Arterial and major collector roadways are generally passable, although  motorists should expect snow packed, narrowed and blocked lanes.

Tree and power line damage continues to occur. Baltimore Gas & Electric is working to restore power as quickly as possible. The County has tree contractors working to aid in removal of trees from County roads where BGE infrastructure is not involved.

Heavy snow accumulations continue to keep many residential streets impassable.  Equipment is making its way into communities across the County. We are working as quickly as possible. When equipment arrives, especially on
narrow residential streets, expect snow piles that could cause inconvenience and block areas normally used for parking. Windrows in front of driveways will occur and we regret any inconvenience that they cause. Crews cannot return to unblock driveways. The focus is on clearing community roadways.

Snow plowing equipment is being made available to support emergency service providers as a priority. This can slow the plowing operation.

Due to the severity of this storm, normally stated levels of service for storms of 14 inches or more may not be met. We will continue with 24 hour operations but it will be a number of days until all residential streets receive service.
