Fire Damages Annapolis Restaurant. Fire officials are investigating the cause of a restaurant blaze.Firefighters responded to the India Palace on West Street just before 4 a.m. Thursday.The blaze was brought under control in less than a half-hour.No injuries were reported.

Schools Push To Postpone MSAs Due To Snow.  The historic snowfall may affect the testing of more than 50,000 students set to take the Maryland State Assessment tests in mid-March.Some school systems are calling for the MSAs to be postponed.The MSA is a series of math and reading tests given to the state’s third- through eighth-grade students. It’s an important test in helping students meet tough state and federal education standards.

Lawmakers Want Public Aware Of Electric Options.  Some Maryland lawmakers want the Public Service Commission to do more to advertise that residents have options in choosing electricity providers. Delegate Dereck Davis gathered Thursday with leaders from the Retail Energy Supply Association to highlight legislation aimed at boosting public awareness about electricity options — other than Baltimore Gas and Electric.

BWI To Scan For Explosives On Hands.  After the attempted bombing of a plane on Christmas, the Transportation Security Administration has added another layer of security at airports all over the country, including at BWI.TSA swabbing machines typically used for baggage will now be used on passengers’ skin. They’re called explosive trace detection, or ETD, devices.”It’s a highly valuable tool for us, so we want to use it in new ways to leverage that ability,” said TSA spokeswoman Lauren Gaches.
