Snow Likely To Increase BGE Bills. The recent blizzards have Baltimore Gas and Electric giving its customers a heads-up that the snow prevented them from reading some meters, meaning this month’s bills will be an estimate.

Senate Leader Tries To Boot GOP Top Staffer. Maryland’s powerful Senate president has ordered a GOP senator to have his chief-of-staff resign or terminate her because of her apparent campaign for the House of Delegates. In the letter Senate President Mike Miller sent Baltimore County Sen. Andy Harris this week, he said the attorney general’s office advised him that Harris’ top staffer, Kathy Szeliga, is in violation of personnel policy that prohibits employees from working for the legislature while running for state legislative office.

3 Killed In Past 36 Hours As Storms Subside. After violent crime took a dive during the back-to-back snowstorms, there are questions as to whether that crime is picking up once again as the snow retreats.Police said three people were killed inside the city within the past 36 hours.

Senate Rejects Efforts To Alter Pensions, Salaries. Maryland senators defeated an attempt by a Baltimore County senator to alter their legislative pensions and salaries. Senators voted 32-14 Wednesday to deny Republican Sen. Andy Harris the extra day he requested to submit an amendment that he said would put lawmaker pensions in a defined contribution plan. Tempers flared on the Senate floor when Harris contended the current pension plan for lawmakers is overly generous and the state could save money by changing it or reducing legislative salaries by 2 percent.
