1 Dead, 1 Injured

Police are investigating a crash that occurred at 6:30am this morning on Route 100 and Telegraph Road in Anne Arundel County. One man was pronounced dead at the scene and another was flown to shock trauma.
Initial reports indicate that one of the vehicles left the highway and flipped over an embankment and fell to a railroad track below.
Police are still investigating.

On February 27, 2010, at approximately 6:19 a.m., officers from the Western District were dispatched to the area of MD Rt. 100 Eastbound, east of Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover for a report of a motor vehicle crash.
Due to the severity of the injuries, members of the Traffic Safety Section were requested to respond to the scene. Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel extricated the driver from the vehicle and he was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma via MSP Medevac with life threatening injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation revealed that a silver 2006 Acura was traveling eastbound on MD Route 100 in the area of Arundel Mills Boulevard when the driver of the Acura swerved to avoid a westbound vehicle that he perceived was crossing the median strip. Consequently, the driver of the Acura lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail on the north side of the roadway (median guardrail). The vehicle eventually struck the bridge abutment for a train track overpass, vaulted over the bridge and came to rest on its roof in the ravine next to the train tracks. At the time of the crash, the roadways were wet due to recent snowfall.
Preliminary investigation indicates that roadway conditions and driver error contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
