Schools Try To Get Back Snow Days

County Schools Petition State

Anne Arundel County Schools have petitioned the State Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Grasmick to waive two of the three snow days used by the system. The schools have built four days into the calendar for inclement weather.

Citing that the Governor declared a state of emergency in December when 21 inches of snow fell on the area. School’s Superintendent, Kevin Maxwell is seeking a waiver to the state requirement of 180 teaching days for schools.

What are your thoughts? Would the schools have been able to open had there not been a state of emergency? Are the schools at fault for only scheduling 4 snow days a year?
