Same-Sex Marriage Bill Stirs Debate In Annapolis.  Supporters and opponents of a proposed anti-same-sex marriage bill packed an Annapolis hearing room on Thursday. The legislation would close a loophole that allows Maryland to recognize same sex marriages in other states. The bill is a preemptive strike against a highly-anticipated opinion on the issue from the state attorney general’s office.

Anne Arundel Charter School Success Opens Baltimore Eyes. One of the Baltimore City middle schools set to close this year could serve a new purpose for students.It may become a charter school and be modeled after a program in Anne Arundel County, according to 11 News education reporter Tim Tooten.Students at Chesapeake Science Point Charter School in Hanover are focused primarily on science, math and technology. The school has a student body of about 200.

Obama Targets Baltimore & BWI For Rail Projects.  A new tunnel in Baltimore and a new station at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport are included in President Barack Obama’s high-speed rail projects that he plans to announce on Thursday.The White House said “Recovery Act High-Speed Rail Awards” for the Northeast Corridor will have funded improvements including major, long-needed projects such as the completion of engineering and environmental work for a new tunnel in Baltimore and a new station at BWI Airport.

No Sex For A Year Could Equal Divorce In MD.  A Maryland lawmaker wants to allow courts to grant divorces to couples after they go a year without having sex instead of forcing them to live apart during the waiting period. Montgomery County Delegate Luiz Simmons is behind the legislation.Simmons, an attorney, said he’s backing the measure to ease the initial financial burden for couples seeking a mutual, uncontested divorce.
