Right now, money is the critical thing needed to get medical supplies and basic necessities to the people on the island. We have chosen to support Doctors Without Borders for this effort and encourage our readers to do the same. If not through Doctors Without Borders, but through a legitimate organization. Unfortunately scammers come out of the woodwork when disaster strikes. Here is a list (updated frequently) of organizations that have been vetted and are participating in the relief efforts. House Of Delegates Honors Long-Term Sen. Sarbanes.  Former U.S. Sen. Paul Sarbanes was honored in the Maryland House of Delegates.Sarbanes, who is Maryland’s longest-serving U.S. senator, attended a ceremony in the House on Thursday.Sarbanes, a Democrat, retired in 2006.

Police Charge Man With Impersonating Officer, Sex Offense.  Baltimore County police have arrested a registered child sex offender who they said impersonated an officer and sexually assaulted a woman after he pulled her over.Dennis McLaughlin Jr., 37, of Baltimore, was arrested Thursday on charges of fourth-degree sex offense, false imprisonment and impersonating a police officer.

Governors Make Wager On Ravens-Colts Game.  Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said he’s raised the stakes for a friendly bet with Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley on the winner of Saturday night’s playoff game between the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens. Daniels on Thursday offered a sugar cream pie from Wick’s Pies in Winchester and shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo’s Steak House in Indianapolis.

Tanker Overturns, Catches Fire On MD Overpass.  A tanker truck overturned and caught fire Thursday morning on an Interstate 270 overpass. Montgomery County Fire Capt. Oscar Garcia said firefighters who were called to the Montrose Road overpass at about 4:45 a.m. Thursday were able to contain the blaze and keep gasoline from running into nearby storm drains.
