Officer Charged With Child Pornography Held
According to the AP and WBAL Radio 1090, Anne Arundel County Police Lieutenant James Cifala will remain in jail pending his federal trial in Baltimore.
The US Magistrate Judge Beth Gesner felt that it appeard Cifala had manipulated the teen into sending sexually explicit texts and photographs and was a danger to the community.
Federal prosecutors say the two exchanged explicit texts and exchanged naked pictures of each other. It is also alleged that Cifala had purchased the cell phone for the the teenager last summer.
Cifala’s attorney, Howard Cardin, says he’s never seen the charge his client is facing brought in federal court. He says it’s a sign there’s a problem with the government’s case and that prosecutors may not have any pictures to present as evidence.
Cifala has been suspended from the police department without pay.
