Unidentified Man Dies In Selby Heights Fire

UPDATE: According to witnesses, the man has been identified as John B. Sorrell, a local attorney. This is the second fatal fire in Anne Arundel County in two months. Kenneth Reigert died on November 30, 2009 in the Annapolis Roads community. Both Annapolis Roads and Selby Heights are not served by fire hydrants.

Anne Arundel County firefighters are at the scene of a fatal two-alarm house fire.

Fire crews said the fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 800 block of Bayview Drive. The home is in the waterfront community of Selby Heights along the South River. Firefighters said they saw smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the home when they arrived. Crews found one person inside. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took fire crews about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control. Commanders said 83 firefighters responded to the fire. The fire was contained to the second floor of the home. No other injuries have been reported.

The victim’s identity has not been released and there is no word on a cause.
