Adios To Mexican Cafe

Local Favorite To Close Down In May

The owners of The Mexican Cafe have known about the proposed development for years. The customers have known about it for years. But it seemed that the go ahead for a new development was always stuck in a quagmire of politics and permits with the City of Annapolis.

Sadly, time has apparently run out. The owner of the property has given the Mexican Cafe six months to vacate in order to make room for another CVS Pharmacy.

The little shack has gained quite a following in last 17 years. In the late 90s before the outside deck, it was a fun local place to go and spend the night. Walk up to the cooler and select your own cerveza–the honor system was alive and well and it was a secret oasis for many. Then the word got about their margaritas and the secret was out.

The owner, Pam Gladfelter, is hoping to be able to find another location and the landlord has agreed to offer assistance in relocating the business as well. Their satellite location, Mexican Cafe TOGO, across the street in the Bay Forest Shopping Center will remain open for limited seating and carryout orders.

Pam has left this sad message on the restaurant’s webiste:

TO OUR LOYAL PATRONS,

As the café celebrates its 17th birthday, it is with great sadness, that I bring you the news that the journey in our “little Tijuana building” will be finally coming to an end. The multi-use project, that has been slated for so long, will begin with the building of a CVS on the café property. Our final days of business will be towards the end of May 2010.

I am working aggressively towards relocating the cafe. Our satellite TOGO with inside seating, at Bay Forest Plaza, will remain open and was established for this moment in time. If you would like to receive communication of the café’s relocation progress, please sign our patron log in the restaurant. We will also be posting information on our facebook page.

The café deeply appreciates your many years of patronage. We have enjoyed serving you throughout these many years and hope you will come and visit us when we begin our new journey. Take care and be safe!

Fondly,
Pam Gladfelter
Owner

We hope that this is a temporary bump in the road and that we will not be forced to live a summer without The Mexican Cafe!
