Glen Burnie Woman Found Beaten In Apartment

UPDATE (1/2/2009 3:35PM): The suspect, Patrick Rhys, 43, of the 400 block of Summer Wind Way in Glen Burnie, has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, and 1st Degree Assault.

January 1, 2010 saw the first pedestrian fatality in Anne Arundel County and also the first murder. Gloria Tongue, 49, of Summer Wind Way was beaten to death inside her apartment. Police believe she was killed by her roommate in a domestic dispute.

After the beating, the suspect traveled to his cousin’s house in Towson where he relayed the events to his relative. The relative called the Baltimore County Police Department who in turn dispatched the Anne Arundel County Police Department to the apartment.  When police were unable to get an answer, they forced their way into the apartment and made the discovery.

The Baltimore County Police took the unnamed suspect into custody and he is currently in custody in Anne Arundel County.
