Teacher Of The Year

Nominations Being Soughtteacher_of_the_year

Do you have a teacher who made an especially significant impact on you or your children? Why not nominate him or her for Teacher Of The Year?

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Excellence in Education awards, honoring the county’s top public and private school educators. One public school and one private school nominee will receive the title of the Teacher of the Year for their respective sectors of education. The Public School Teacher of the Year will represent the county in the state competition.

Hosted by the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce (AAACCC), the Excellence in Education program is in its 24th year.

A preliminary nomination round has been added to the process. Public and private school teacher nomination forms are available in all county public and private schools or by visiting the chamber’s web site, www.annapolischamber.com. All teacher nominations must be received by the chamber office by 4 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010.

To be considered, nominees should:

  • have a minimum of five years teaching experience (for public school nominees);
  • demonstrate respect for and from students, parents, community, and colleagues; and,
  • be able to speak to large audiences articulating education issues and the importance of the teaching profession.

Once the preliminary applications have been received and reviewed, 15 semi-finalists will be chosen and notified. During the week of March 20, 2010, five finalists for both the public and private school awards will be announced from the pool of semi-finalists. All eligible teacher nominees will be honored at a special awards dinner in April 2010. The final award winners will be announced that evening.
