Snow Removal Costs State $27 MillionTransportation officials said the cost of removing snow from last weekend’s storm is nearly $27 million and could go higher.

Flight Leaving BWI Hits Flock Of Birds. An AirTran Airways flight leaving Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport struck a flock of birds and ended up heading back to the airport.  BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean said Flight 599 took off from BWI at about 9 p.m. Tuesday for Indianapolis. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported hitting a flock of birds, turned around and returned to the runway.

Leopold: Yes To Arundel Mills Slots, No To Laurel Park.  Anne Arundel’s county executive signed off on a bill to put slots near a popular mall and vetoed another concerning slots at a horse racing track. County Executive John Leopold’s action came hours after the Anne Arundel County Council passed a pair of zoning bills — one each that could have put slots near Arundel Mills Mall and at or near Laurel Park.Leopold said he was just following the lead of the slots commission.”I think it’s important for the long-term fiscal health of the county. It will help us preserve our AAA bond rating, which has enormous consequences. We hope to generate somewhere between $23 and $30 million a year from this site,” the county executive said.

3 Officers Injured: 4 Arrested In Chase.  Police continued to investigate Wednesday after a chase sent three officers to the hospital and left several police cars damaged.  Authorities said it started at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of St. Agnes Lane in Woodlawn when officers tried to stop a Jeep thought to be stolen. The vehicle also matched the description of a getaway car in some robberies earlier in the day, police said.
