Cohen promised fiscal responsibility and professional management. I take him to be a man of his word.

I do agree that these early decisions point in a different direction..... but give the man a chance to get his feet on the ground!

It would be great if everyone would make it a point to go to at least some City Council meetings. Let our positions be heard. Meet with our Alderman. Write letters and blogs.

The people of Annapolis have been far too complacent for too long. It's time for us to get off of our duffs and demand good government!!

I thought these days were all about trimming fat?

This is "stimulus spending." Perhaps by providing that excuse I can get a job as Director of Spin and make $225k a year!

A lot of people getting paid a lot of money for doing nothing.

It seems to me this is nothing new and Mayors have been forever appointing people as "contractors" to do all sorts of things for the City. You generally don't get government workers to be very activist & energized (say over the environmental issues, historic stuff, parking, maritime issues, budget reductions or other special projects) or show a whole lot initiative when it comes to new things that can be done to make the a City better place - they're gov't workers & bureaucrats after all... not your more entrepreneurial sort of worker.

Give Josh a chance I am sure cuts in goverenmnet are coming - That's what Dough Smith was hired to do - run the place like a business. Whether the rest of the Council agrees is a whole other matter.

We do have to realize that he's only been in office for a week. And it's not easy to be mayor under the conditions that we're in. I know we're all anxious, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Josh is a disappointment at best. He is obviously not equipped to handle the job of Mayor, and instead is going to spend the people's money in order to try and buy competence. 4 new positions ? Maybe he should have eliminated 5 or six old positions before he created 4 new ones.
