Were you IN court, or did you follow court procedures through the papers?
The result, BERT, is a kid is Dead. The result with the door was some fire damage, WHICH can be repaired, so until YOU learn to raise the dead, these are two seperate things!!!
Check all the facts BERTY boy, these were black kids…. wanna go there? Killing a white kid, but oh dear, lets not call this a hate crime. BERTY BOY, you are “trying to be real” have you ever lost someone through MURDER? After you do, then, lets talk about being real, then lets talk about whats fair, then lets talk… until then….

Check the FACTS… Not what you “heard”… I followed this in the court and the medical examiner found no evidence of a “beat down”, no evidence of kicks or multiple continuous strikes… Some abrasions, bruises, and a ruptured something or another in his neck from a single punch, which caused his death. Looks like our arsonist got a few more years tacked on (check the news today) for violating probation. Don’t get me wrong, this is a tragady anyway you slice it, I’m just trying to be real about it. This was a kid fight/assault that happens multiple times everyday in our county where one of the kids landed an unlucky punch.

Bert, this was a beat down, his parents pulled him out of school because of the problems with his killer, that had gone on for months. I do not see how a fire-bombing that killed no one, and would not have occured if Christopher Jones was still alive warrants a stiffer penalty.

Bert, hopefully the author will chime in and the column is labeled “opinion”. However, I also have heard that there were 5 to 7 total people involved as participants and there were more than sucker punches thrown–including kicks when he fell. These came from kids in school who likely had a connection to those involved. And kids are prone to exaggerate, but usually the basic concepts of the story ring true. Maybe not here, but just my two cents as to what I have heard!

The police did catch everyone… There are no other suspects… There were others around but did not throw punches…. Perhaps the “others” involved were actually witnesses?

This was not a beat down… This was a brief encounter involving two sucker punches, one by each kid that caused a freak injury leading the Jones’ death… Tragic? Absolutely. But these street encounters, assaults, and fights between kids happen everyday, fortunately not with the same consequences.

The fire bombers does deserve more time. He’s an adult and he has been in the adult criminal justice system before. Let his sentence be the “lesson” that younger kids need to see… If you’re in trouble now as a kid, straigten up, because it gets real serious when you turn 18.

I agree to a degree. But there is a point about Raszewski (a juvenile) who because of the magnitude of his crime (equivalent to the Jones murder??) is being tried as an adult. Did someone have a better attorney? Are the judges just that freewheeling (my vote)? And probably a better title for his piece might have been “Reverse Discrimination” and leave it at that.

This is a juvenile vs. adult issue. You’re reading race into something which has nothing to do with race.
