Adam Jones Wins Gold Glove

Adam Jones’ breakout year has continued past the regular season as he has now collected his first Rawlings Gold Glove award.  A gold glove award winner has eluded the Orioles since 1999 when Mike Mussina won the award, even more rare was that an Oriole outfielder has captured this title, the first time since 1975 when Paul Blair was the recipient.  Adam missed the last month of the season but still had more opportunities in center field this year than last year and ended his season with a 985 fielding percentage.  This distinction along with his selection to the 2009 All Star team has put Adam in the spotlight and a well deserved spotlight it is with his stellar performance this year.

Oriole fans probably were a little disappointed that Nick Markakis was not a winner as well, his play in right field is excellent and continues to improve every year.  I think with the current crop of young players making their way to the big show, Oriole fans can expect a lot more gold to come.
