Dr. Martha A. Smith Honored at AACC Gala

On Saturday, October 17th, Anne Arundel Community College Foundation’s Gala will take place on-campus at the David S. Jenkins Gymnasium. The evening will be in celebration of Dr. Martha A. Smith’s, president of Anne Arundel Community College, fifteen-year anniversary as head of the school. All proceeds from Saturday’s event will be dedicated to programming and scholarships for AACC students, to reaffirm President Smith’s priority of “Students First”.

Art Exhibits Featuring Work by both Students and Instructors

Running until the end of the month, Barnes & Noble of Annapolis Harbour Center will be holding the “9th Annual Continuing Education Student and Instructor Art Exhibit”. The exhibit has been opened since October 1st, and will remain open until October 30th. For more information, please call 410-777-2325

Anne Arundel Community College will be showing “Red”, an exhibit showing different aspects of the color red in work made by the faculty of the Visual Arts department of the school. The exhibit will remain open until October 30th, 2009 and is currently being held at the Cade Fine Arts Center at the main campus of AACC in Arnold.

Gabriel Garcia Medina comes to AACC

International poet and spoken word artist, Gabriel Garcia Medina, will be participating at an event sponsored by AACC’s Student Association Campus Activities Board as part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. There is no charge to attend the event, will take place in the Career Center (Room 240) at the main campus of the college in Arnold, and is at 12:30 pm on October 20th. Upcoming Sporting Events

The women’s volleyball team will be playing against Chesapeake College (at Chesapeake College) on October 14th at 6:00 pm, as well as competing against Harford Community College (at Harford Community College) at 7:00 pm on October 16th.

The women’s soccer team will hold a game against Howard Community College (at Howard CC) on October 16th at 3:00 pm. They will also be competing against Monroe Community College of New York on Sunday, October 18th at the Sieqert Stadium on the Arnold campus.

Men’s soccer will be playing against the College of Southern Maryland on Friday, October 16th at 3:00 pm (at their campus), and also on-campus in Arnold against Prince George’s Community College on October 21st at 7:00 pm.

The Pioneer’s baseball team will take the field on Sunday, October 18th against Columbia Union College at noon on their campus, and will have another away game on Tuesday, October 20th at the Community College of Baltimore County – Essex at 3:00 pm.

Last but definitely not least, this week men’s basketball will hit the courts again, with it’s first game of the season. A scrimmage match will be against Williams Free School of Mechanical Trades on their campus in Pennsylvania on Friday, October 16th at 6:00 pm.
