Teachers Give O’Malley Endorsement. Maryland’s largest teachers lobby has given Gov. Martin O’Malley an early endorsement for re-election in 2010.O’Malley was to speak Saturday to the Maryland State Education Association during its annual conference in Ocean City. On Friday, representatives from the 71,000-member group voted overwhelmingly to endorse O’Malley.

Widow Of Broadcaster Jim McKay Dies At 89. Margaret Dempsey McManus, the widow of sports broadcasting legend Jim McKay, has died. She was 89.Her daughter, Mary Guba, told The Baltimore Sun that McManus died early Thursday in her sleep at her home in northern Baltimore County. Guba said the cause of death was congestive heart failure.

Police ID Victim Of Laurel Slaying. Police in Laurel have released the name of the city’s first slaying victim of 2009.Anthony Michael Sparacino, 44, was found Tuesday morning lying on the floor of a home on Dorset Road, investigators said Friday.Laurel police went to the home after family members said they had not been able to contact Sparacino for days.
