Support Harvest For The Hungry

Many numbers are rising. Unemployment, foreclosures, defaults. Two numbers that are indeed shocking is that the Anne Arundel County schools have seen a 21% increase in the number of students eligible for reduced meal pricing and a 61% increase in the number of homeless students in the school system.

While this really should not happen at all, it is.  Please help. The schools are sponsoring Harvest For the Hungry which is a program to collect food and donations to help feed those less fortunate. The three week drive continues through November 6th.

The drive is seeking non-perishable foods as well as cash–one dollar will buy approximately 8 pounds of food, so your generous contribution will go a long way.

We are very fortunate to have compassionate and caring students, parents, and employees who have helped our school system lead the state in this effort, and I urge all residents of our county to do what they can to help. Just one can of food will make a huge difference.

Kevin M. Maxwell, PhD., Superintendent, Anne Arundel County Public Schools

Anyone wishing to donate money or canned goods to the Harvest For The Hungry – Kids Helping Kids drive can do so at any county public school or office. Checks dropped off at schools should be made out to the “Anne Arundel County Food and Resource Bank” with the notation “Kids Helping Kids” in the memo line.

For more information on the drive, call 410-222-5414. For more information on the Anne Arundel County Food and Resource Bank, call 410-923-4255.
