A Scam Reminder

There Are No Cheap Apartments Or Homes In Annapolis

Well, maybe there are, but if you see one advertised on Craigslist for a ridiculous price, be suspicious. If you aren’t suspicious, and the advertiser tells you he is out of the country and will send you keys to see it for a deposit–be suspicious.  If you send the money, you have got what was coming to you. We warned you about this back in July!

From today’s police report:

The Annapolis Police Department is investigating several reports of attempted fraud involving bogus ads being placed on Craigslist, a popular internet marketplace website. The ads advertise that local residences are for rent for low monthly rates. When prospective renters inquire about the property, the person claiming to be the owner tells them that he is currently overseas, but if they wire him payment, he will send the keys and lease agreement via Fedex. Investigation has revealed that at least one of the properties being advertised as vacant is already occupied and a local realtor for the address said that the ad is false.
