County Executive John R. Leopold will join neighborhood members on Sept. 12 to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of the Sun Valley Community Park in Glen Burnie. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the park, located off Baltimore & Annapolis Boulevard at the end of Kempton Road.

“An effective partnership with communities such as Sun Valley cement my mission to provide quality services that strengthen community image, provide recreational experiences, encourage healthy lifestyles and preserve the areas heritage,” said County Executive Leopold. “It is a pleasure watching families having fun in an activity filled park.”

The eight acres originally set aside by the developer as a community park eventually evolved into a weedy blight on the neighborhood. County Executive Leopold, working alongside the Sun Valley Improvement and Recreation Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks, implemented a plan resulting in the development of the newly renovated Sun Valley Community Park. Families can walk to their park and enjoy upgraded amenities such as swings, half-court basketball, a t-ball field, open play areas and picnic tables with a grill. For area safety, a street light was installed.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be followed by neighborhood-sponsored
activities.
