Obama Takes Health Care Pitch To College Park. Thousands of University of Maryland students mixed with the general public Thursday inside the Comcast Center to hear President Barack Obama put in another pitch for his health care reform proposal.

Glen Burnie Soldier Among 3 Killed In Afghanistan. The Department of Defense said Thursday that a soldier from Glen Burnie was among three killed in Afghanistan. The military said Sgt. 1st Class Bradley Bohle, 29, of Glen Burnie, died Wednesday of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device on Tuesday.The Department of Defense said the attack occurred in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

MD Board: New Revenue Projections Grim. Maryland’s budget forecast darkened again Thursday as budget officials said declining revenue estimates will force between $290 and $300 million in further reductions to balance this year’s budget, while the shortfall for the next fiscal year is approaching about $2 billion. The state’s Board of Revenue Estimates released updated estimates for the current and next fiscal years in projections that are still feeling the effects of the recession.

Debt Collectors Banned From Harassing Marylanders. Maryland regulators have ordered some national debt collection agencies to stop breaking both state and federal laws after one woman said she’s being harassed by collectors about a debt from 1982.State officials said many of the firms purchase so-called junk debt. They send letters, call consumers and file court actions to try to collect old debt written off by credit card companies and other lenders.
