ACORN Halts New Admissions, Plans Internal Probe. An advocacy group under fire after employees were caught on camera appearing to advise a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp to lie about the woman’s profession said Wednesday it is ordering an independent investigation.

BWI To Close Communications Center. Maryland Aviation Administration officials said budget cuts are prompting them to close the communications center at BWI.The closure of the center at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport means eight staffers, including operators who can deliver announcements in Arabic, French, Spanish, German and Flemish, will lose their jobs.The move will save $450,000 a year.

Panel Debates Carter’s Racism Claims. A controversial statement from a former president is sparking a debate across the country on race in politics.”I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man,” former president Jimmy Carter said.That discussion took center stage Wednesday night in Baltimore.Ben Jealous, the executive director of the NAACP, spoke on a panel at the Enoch Pratt Library on the very same subject.While the White House is downplaying Carter’s comments, there are a lot of people on both sides of the fence.

Watermen May Not Be Responsible For Bay Decline. Maryland’s watermen have long taken the brunt of the blame for the decline of crabs and other fish in the Chesapeake Bay, but a new report said fingers should be pointing elsewhere.Watermen and farmers have taken a lot of the blame for the bay’s population over the past 30 years, but a new report from the group Environment Maryland pointed to industry and population centers as the place where change needs to start.

O’Malley: Revenues Could Be Revised Down $300M. Gov. Martin O’Malley said a drop in Maryland revenue estimates could be as high as $300 million. O’Malley said Wednesday the state’s 7.2 percent unemployment rate has taken a toll on the amount of money the state is bringing in, even though there are some signs the economy is beginning to turn around. The Board of Revenue Estimates meets Thursday to release revised revenue estimates.
