Police: Off Duty Officer Shoots Home Invader. Baltimore police say an off-duty officer shot a man who pulled a gun on the officer during an apparent home invasion attempt.

Regulators Open Constellation Hearings. The Maryland Public Service Commission is opening a week of hearings on Constellation Energy’s proposed sale of nearly half of its nuclear energy business to France’s EdF.

Teacher Pleads Guilty To Abusing Student, 14. A former Howard County teacher was escorted to jail Monday morning after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse.Ricardo Antonio Cuaderes, 57, taught history at a charter school in Washington, D.C.

Wrong Ticket Nets Man $50,000 Lottery Prize. A northwest Baltimore man decided to keep and scratch off a ticket mistakenly given to him by a clerk — and he’s now $50,000 richer. The 73-year-old man, whose name wasn’t released by Maryland Lottery officials, tried to buy a “Nutcracker Cash” ticket recently but was handed a “Deal or No Deal” ticket instead.

Prosecutors Hope To Toughen MD Gang Laws. Many prosecutors in Maryland believe this is the year to beef up the state’s anti-gang law.Several of the state’s top law enforcement officials are scheduled to meet this week with the House Judiciary Committee as part of a bid to craft tougher legislation.Prosecutors said the current gang law is so watered-down that it’s virtually useless.
