School Resource Officers Armed With Scooters
It appears that Anne Arundel County high school resource officers (police officers assigned to schools) have a new tool (toy?) to play with in the parking lots of the schools.
From a distance, it looks like the Zappy 3 Standard scooter with a cost of $600. While supplying these to the county’s 12 high schools is not a huge cost, the question remains is it really needed? Does this come from the already strapped school budget? Or the already strapped county budget?
This morning, as a car alarm was blaring for nearly 5 minutes, one of the scooter equipped officers was busy demonstrating how it can go down a curb from a sidewalk. One might think an investigation of the alarm might have been a priority.
What are your opinions? Was this a good addition to the school resource program? Or a waste of money? Paul Blart, School Cop anyone?
