August 2009 County Newsletter Available
The County Executive’s Office has released the August 2009 issue of the County’s Month In Review. Among the highlights:
- Illegal Immigration. County Executive John R. Leopold has instituted several policies to assist federal authorities in detaining and deporting illegal immigrants. Last year, the County made 959 referrals resulting in 234 transfers to customs agents. Through June of this year, the County recorded 408 referrals resulting in 170 detainers. Among those referred and deported were two convicted sex offenders.
- County Credit Cards. County Executive John R. Leopold has enacted strict rules for the use of County credit cards to closely monitor spending by County employees and also maximize rebates offered by the lender. Anne Arundel County has earned a $196,215.23 rebate through the Office of Central Services’ Procurement Card Program in accordance with the provisions of its contract with US Bank. This rebate represents a 27% increase over last year’s $154,196.84 rebate.
