UPDATE: Suspicious Death

From a release just sent out by the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

Release Date: July 11th, 2009 Time: 2145 hours

On July 10, 2009, at approximately 6:17 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to the 7400 block of Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie for a reported death.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to a freezer in the residence, where the apparently deceased body of 83-year-old Doris Lea Cooke was located. Responding officers secured the scene and detectives from the homicide unit were notified and launched an investigation into the death of Ms. Cooke.

Homicide detectives interviewed numerous family members and witnesses in regards to the death investigation. Detectives learned that Ms. Cooke suffered from various medical conditions and had been bedridden for the last several years. Detectives were also informed that Ms. Cooke had passed away several weeks ago at which time family members placed her body into the freezer. Detectives conducted a search of the residence in reference to the ongoing death investigation. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland so an autopsy could be performed. Upon completion of the autopsy, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will coordinate efforts with detectives to determine the cause and manner of death.
