Healthcare Reform

Congress Is Exempthouse seal

While not directly related to Anne Arundel County, the current healthcare reform is an issue that impacts everyone.  Congressman John Fleming represents the 4th district of Louisiana. As he reviewed the plans before the House of Representatives, he noticed that Senators and Members of Congress were curiously exempt from the new reform.

He has introduced an amendment requiring that all congressional leaders be covered by the same plan that they ultimately enact for the American people.  This only makes sense, since we elect them to serve us.

Congressman Fleming is collecting “signatures” on his website. It is a simple transaction–first name, last name, email address.  If you believe congress needs to abide by the same rules, please visit his site where you can vote in favor of his amendment and also read a copy of the bill as it currently stands!

The web address is  http://fleming.house.gov/. Scroll down a bit and the form is right there.

If you want people to trust~~~ you must earn it! Making Congress exempt does not build trust! Health Care Reform, I understand is complicated; however, applying reform to everyone no matter who or what they are, is NOT COMPLICATED! Please dont misunderstand the American people by believing they dont read or know what is going on.

I’d like to know where you are getting this exemption of Congress from?
    I found this response:

    Ihttp://www.icyou.com/topics/politics-policy/reality-check-congress-did-not-vote-exempt-themselves-reform+

There is a passage in the reform bill that says that this is what P. 114 Line 22 states, but have you actually read the passage? I don’t think it says that…

Please check your facts before spreading information like this to people who trust you. This is another unfortunate attempt to stop doing what’s right for America, by offering health care to everyone.

    Sincerely,
    Becky Gordon

Thanks for your comment Becky. I will look at your link in a bit; but the information was laid out on Congressman Fleming’s house site and it included the links etc.

Now, I know this bill has changed since this post, so it may indeed no longer be there. But thanks for bringing it up.
