Another Police Involved Shooting

One Suspect Shot After Assaulting Officer, Two More At Large

From a bulletin just released by Anne Arundel County Police:

On June 30, 2009, at approximately 2:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 3438 Andrew Court in Laurel for subjects tampering with a vehicle. The address is the Ashley Apartment complex.

Anne Arundel Police Department

An officer arrived on scene at approximately 2:56 a.m. and located the subjects in a Dodge Durango still in a parking space. The officer exited his vehicle to approach the subjects and the Durango backed up and struck the officer’s vehicle and the officer. The officer was shouting commands to the driver, but the vehicle pulled forward, backed up and struck the officer again. The officer was able to order the driver to stop and exit the vehicle. There was a second suspect in the passenger side of the vehicle. As the driver stood at the door of the vehicle, he made a quick movement to his waistband and the officer fired at the driver and struck him twice.

The passenger of the vehicle, who was described as a black male wearing a striped shirt, fled the scene in an unknown direction. A black Chrysler Concord, which was apparently the vehicle that brought the suspects to the scene, fled the area. That vehicle was driven by a third suspect, who was described as a black male with dreadlocks. The suspect who was shot by the officer, a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville, was taken to Prince Georges County Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Charges are pending for the driver. Police are asking for assistance to identify the other two suspects. The officer was taken to BWMC to be examined for minor injuries and the name of the officer is not yet being released.
