Some Politicians Are BraveSpineless Creatures

As we come off “celebrating” Cinco de Mayo, another Spanish term comes to mind–COJONES. Well, specifically a lack of them.  I am not sure where to start, so we might as well start with the County Council.

Cowardly Council

cowardlylionThey were elected to represent their constituents. So why are they now refusing to vote on the zoning to allow (or disallow) the slots that their constituents approved? While I fully realize that some constituents are still against slots, it is time for the Council to take a stand one way or the other. That is why they were elected and that is what they are paid to do! By doing nothing, the Council will effectively go against the 50+% of County residents who voted to allow slots.  For or against, just vote and stop trying to protect your office.  To the County Council–it is time to grow some!  As the lion in the Wizard of Oz said, you need some COURAGE!  And for those who may have forgot the famous speech by the Cowardly Council Lion,

Courage. What makes a King out of a slave? Courage.
What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage.
What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage.
What makes the Sphinx the 7th Wonder? Courage.
What makes the dawn come up like THUNDER?! Courage.
What makes the Hottentot so hot?
What puts the “ape” in ape-ricot?
Whatta they got that I ain’t got?

Alderman Israel Speaks

Several weeks ago, I contacted Annapolis’ Ward 1 Alderman Richard Israel about the issue with Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs.  He replied that he did not know anything and that I needed to contact Chairman Grayston who apparently knew all the answers–well maybe after ignoring the laws for 25 years he discovered them. Well, now that the egregious decision by the ABC is out of the City’s hands, Alderman Israel is now the resident expert.  Is there an election coming up? According to Capital Punishment, maybe not so fast–Moyer may be looking for more years! Do businesses have any rights in the city? Why did Alderman Israel come out to pontificate? Maybe to hold onto his elected seat? In Tuesday’s Capital, he defended his partner Grayston saying he was merely following the law.  That woudl be the same law he overlooked for 25 years.  He does say that there are very few municipalities in Maryland legally allowed to regulate alchhol. Well, maybe it is time for that law to be changed. It is evident that Grayston and Company had no regard for the law for many years.  If Alderman Israel reads this, please answer why the law is only applicable in 2009 when you are up for election?  Eric Hartley thinks it is a sham. Tom Marquardt thinks it is a sham. So why not come out and state your position rather than the political lip service presented in your letter to the editor?
